(Bass). Foreword by Dan Aykroyd (a.k.a. Elwood Blues) As the legendary bassist for the famous Stax-Volt studios in Memphis, and as one of the most influential bass players in the history of American music, Donald "Duck" Dunn (1941-2012) laid down the booty-shaking foundations to countless soul, R&B, blues, and rock recordings throughout the 1960s and '70s, providing the essential grooves for generations of listeners. Duck worked with some of the biggest artists, musicians, and songwriters of the day, including Booker T. & the MGs, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Wilson Pickett, Eddie Floyd, Elvis Presley, Isaac Hayes, and many more. And later, as a member of John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd's riotous Blues Brothers, Duck helped revitalize these genres via his epic bass lines and role in the hit movie. But his unparalleled 50-year career was just getting started. He went on to record and perform with the likes of Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, CSNY, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Buffett, and many more, until his passing in 2012. Now, in this exclusive, one-of-a-kind book, Duck's life and music are presented in full detail, with rare photos, stories, over an hour of audio demonstrations and play-alongs, gear info, and authentic, note-for-note transcriptions of nearly 60 iconic bass lines. Written by bassist and researcher Nick Rosaci, with help from Duck's family, friends, and music compatriots, this book presents a piece of history that documents not only the triumphs and tragedies of Duck's amazing life, but also uncovers the magic behind the "soul fingers" that plucked a thousand timeless grooves.

Learn the Foundational Vocabulary Used By Motown's Bass Master....So That You Can Use Those Ideas To Transform Your Own Playing\\nLike evey language, the language of the bass guitar (for playing in songs, not solos) has its own vocabulary.\\nFew teachers in the bass world teach this vocabulary, or the contributions Jamerson made to the vocabulary of the electric bass. There's three ways to go about learning it\\nThe first way is to get your hands on as many Jamerson transcriptions as you can find, plus transcribing or commissioning more so that you've got a working library to study. Analyze all of those transcriptions to see what notes Jamerson played in each bar (and how they relate to the chord). Start looking for the common pieces of vocabulary - I call them 'devices - and see how Jamerson used those devices in combination with rhythm to move through different chord progressions. You also need to look out for modifying devices and connecting devices.\\nMy conservative estimate based on the time I've invested....this will take you 500 to 1000 hours of study.\\nThe second way is to find a teacher who has already done this work and is willing to teach it. AND has studied topics like deliberate practice, the neuro science of learning and has created a teaching system with a proven track record (i.e. happy students!).\\nThe third way to get started is to get this book.\\nI’ve distilled Jamerson's vocabulary into an easy to follow/quick to implement learning system that will teach YOU how to incorporate the foundational devices that Jamerson used in YOUR lines.\\nNOTE: this book isn’t about HOW to play like James Jamerson, but how to use the devices that he pioneered in his output with Motown in YOUR playing.\\nThis book is Volume 1 of a 4 Volume Series and over the course of these 4 volumes we’re going to dive deep into the kind of lines Jamerson put together, what devices he used, what modifying devices he used. And much more.\\nVolume 1 lays the foundations that the later volumes build on and here's some of what you’ll learn: How to create flow in your bass lines using devices with approach notes built in - and the 5 different types of approach notes (Section 3) How to create your own bass lines - and avoid the ‘Tyranny Of Tempo’ (Section 12) How to use chromatic modifying devices (Section 9) The two simple devices that Jamerson used most (Section 2 and Section 4) Over 100 MP3 tracks to download and practice with (Bonus Website Version) The most used device in pop and rock? (Section 8) Creating dynamic lines using the concept of front end of the bar/back end of the bar (Section 5) Practicing a device from First Principles (Section 7) Perpetual Motion practice exercises for devices using cycle tracks (Sections 2 and 8, plus Bonus Website lessons) Bonus website version with majority of examples filmed at two speeds so you can see and hear how each exercise and example should sound (only available for books purchased on Amazon...but NOT Amazon Marketplace.) COMING NOVEMBER 2022: With the bonus website version will be a tutorial on how to create your own Band In A Box 'James Jamerson' Level 1 style to create your own bass lines, sight reading etudes and practice exercises by entering chords and pushing a button!\nStart learning the foundational devices from Jamerson’s vocabulary. So you can add them to YOUR vocabulary.\\nScroll up and hit the BUY NOW button for Volume 1.\\nIMPORTANT NOTE: if you email your Amazon receipt to paul(AT)how-to-play-bass(DOT)com then I’ll add you to the bonus online version of the book - totally free within 12-24 hours. Usually sooner. Note that Amazon Marketplace sales and 2nd Hand Book Seller sales do not qualify for the bonus online version.

But building guitars professionally starts before you even cut the wood: You need to setup your workplace, you have to define your identity as guitar maker, and decide the guiding principles of your endeavor as luthier. What kind of guitars will you build? For whom? What is going to be the winning characteristic of your instruments?\nAnd then you have to sell the things, of course, so the last part is focused in the marketing process. You will read about positioning your brand, pricing your instruments, photographing them, promoting them, building a great website for your lutherie business, using social networking to show your work to the world, and managing and closing guitar sales.\nWritten by renowned luthier Leo Lospennato (author of the bestseller "Electric Guitar and Bass Design") this book represents the new standard in solid-body guitar making, and the only resource that presents both the technical and commercial aspects of the fascinating art of building musical instruments.
